Finite vs. Infinite Resources: A Delicate Balance

Has anyone else been struck by the potential game-breaking impact of clarity potions and the bard’s spell-refreshing song?

Let’s ponder this: In a realm where the majority of classes must meticulously avoid damage, navigate through both PvE and PvP encounters to optimize their resources (bandages, potions, campfires, Dark and Darker gold etc.), doesn’t it feel somewhat unusual for a couple of classes to possess limitless healing and buffs?

Clerics and Bards are the primary culprits, but any mechanic that sidesteps the necessity of utilizing campfires to restore skills and recover is significantly disrupting the game’s rhythm.

Even the Warlock’s ability for infinite healing indicates a potential trend toward unsettling times. We ought to return to the essence of resource management and recognize dungeons as genuine threats.

I implore Ironmace to consider removing clarity potions and the bard’s spell-refreshing song while reassessing the potency of the Cleric. Furthermore, a closer look at the Warlock is imperative. While infinite healing might find some justification while the class is underdeveloped, once it becomes dominant and we’re confronted with another class evading campfire usage, the imbalance will only magnify.

The process of rejuvenating Cleric spells should inherently pose more challenges than it currently does.

This design is undoubtedly flawed. If your three-person group doesn’t include a Bard and a Cleric, you’re essentially operating below optimal standards. This goes beyond mere creativity; it’s a case where any other combination without these classes inherently falls short. Balance should never be this skewed. There should always be real alternatives. Presently, selecting different classes is largely based on personal preference. However, from a metagame standpoint, opting for other classes seems misguided.

Some stand by this balancing approach, and it perplexes me. This is unarguably poor balancing. A definitive superior option should never be this glaring. While metagames are inevitable, it’s vital to ensure they don’t reach the absurd level that we’re currently witnessing.
