OSRS 1 to 99 Smithing Guide

Smithing is one of the best money-making skills in OSRS. While it mainly focuses on smelting metals into equipment, there are many other potential ways to train it. For instance, questing, minigames, smelting ores, etc.

The Knight’s Quest

Completing this quest gets you straightaway to level 29 Smithing. It’s a faster approach if you’re looking to skip the early boring levels. You’ll likely complete the quest at some point in the game, so it’s better to do it while you’re still a beginner trying to climb levels.

Alternatively?

Well, you can always train the old-fashioned way where you purchase materials and smelt high-level ores. Smithing can be an expensive skill to train, and that’s probably why many players head over to the Blast Furnace for a cost-effective approach.

Anyhow, smelt any Tin & Copper Ore you have stacked up in your bank to make Bronze Bars all the way to level 25 or 30. You can choose to switch to Iron Bars halfway through. Finally, once you’re at level 30, head to the Blast Furnace and continue your training there.

Smithing Equipment

There are two kinds of methods involved in training this skill; Smelting and Smithing. Smelting is the process of converting Ores into Bars, while Smithing is when you use a hammer on Metal Bars to create a piece of equipment. For instance, scimitars, plate bodies, chain skirts, etc. The only two items you’ll need are Metal Bars or Ores, and a Hammer.

Blast Furnace

You can only access the Blast Furnace once you’ve completed The Giant Dwarf quest. Once done, you’ll be able to access Keldagrim. You need to use the Minecart System at the northwest corner of the Grand Exchange (enter the hole) to get there. Blast Furnace is located north of the minecart tracks (basement of the building).

Make sure you’re using worlds 358, 386, or 387, and have coins on you because you’ll be handing over 12,000 to 14,500 OSRS GP every 10 minutes depending on the floor level. Don’t worry, you’ll be making enough RS Gold to cover up the loss and future payments.

What else?

You can become more efficient in the Blast Furnace by carrying Stamina Potions because there’s a lot of running around. Grab a complete Graceful Outfit too to supplement your run energy.

Ice Gloves can come in handy to save yourself inventory space. Sounds silly but if you add it all up, then you’ll be making over 100 trips per hour. You can get one by killing the Ice Queen located under White Wolf Mountain. Make sure to use the southeastern corner safe spot if your combat level is low.

Grab a Coal Bag too while you’re at it because you need to concentrate on increasing both XP and Profit per hour. You can get one for 100 Gold Nuggets at the Motherload Mine.

If you’re making Gold Bars, then a good investment would be the Goldsmith Gantlets. You can get around 300k XP per hour by using them. They basically double the XP rates; however, the only way to get them is by completing the Family Crest quest.

Locations

You can find an anvil south of the Yanille Bank, near the northern hut in Tai Bwo Wannai (Quest Requirement), and near the Varrock West Bank. Speaking of Furnaces, there’s one near the Edgeville bank, the second east of the Falador bank, and the third north of the Al-Kharid bank.

Conclusion

Considering all the points we’ve mentioned, you can easily turn your loss into profits while training Smithing. Make sure you get the add-on items after level 40 to make the training worthwhile. We hope you liked our guide. Good luck!
